A nasal cannula assists Will with breathing. Although the NC doesn't breathe for Will it helps supply oxygen to his system. Room air is generally 21% oxygen. There are times when Will is given only room air, at other times however he is given oxygen levels of 22% - 35% or greater. Nurses often refer to "chasing him" as they adjust the oxygen levels to his needs. The amount needed can fluctuate greatly from hour to hour. On Dec. 7th, Dr.'s ordered Will be placed on the NC.
